Teacher Leadership Academy

Meet Our Teacher Leadership Participants

Pike County Schools hosted its inaugural Teacher Leadership Academy (TLA) participants in the Fall of 2023. TLA is an academy designed to inspire and empower teachers who are aspiring school leaders. The program assists teachers in developing and strengthening effective leadership practices while exploring the daily operations of our school system. It affords select teachers the opportunity to develop and experience leadership skills and practices outside of the classroom. The TLA provides on-site, interactive, systematic, and engaging experiences to participants who are teacher leaders.

  • Mr. DiShon Benjamin is a teacher and coach at Pike County High School. This is his 26th year in education. His hobbies include sports and fishing. He is married to his wife, Shelley, and a father of three daughters named Darby, Delani, and Daegan.

  • Nicklaus is a Troy native, born and raised in the city he lives in and calls home. His family has been rooted in this area since 1855, which comes as no surprise that he would have such a passion for the area. He is a third-generation graduate of Charles Henderson High School, and he has become very involved with the City of Troy. Nicklaus very early found a special interest in history. Although history is his passion, he never saw that he was being given as many educational challenges in the subject as compared to those of others in school. This lack of stimulus only further deepened his drive to learn, and so began his quest for education. Working with the City of Troy on different projects led him to write a book at the age of 22 on the city’s history while pursuing an education degree with a minor in global business from Troy University. Nicklaus was elected to the Student Government Association at Troy University, where he chaired a committee and later won the Ralph Wyatt Adams award for his passion and leadership in the association. He now finds himself in his fifth year of teaching, and his manifested passion is what’s driving both him and his students deeper into the subject. Along with teaching social studies, he also finds himself leading many initiatives, school clubs, and programs, and standing in as a father figure to many who come through the school doors every day. And in 2024, he was recognized as Banks School’s “Teacher of the Year”. His teaching philosophy revolves around making sure each student is seen, seeing their potential, helping them overcome their adolescence, and teaching them right from wrong, all while helping them understand the world around them.

  • Please join me in welcoming Mr. Adrian Daniels! A proud native of Brantley, Alabama, Mr. Daniels graduated from Brantley High School in 2005, where he made history as the school’s fourth Black SGA President and served as class president. He also initiated a Black History Program, enriching the school's cultural offerings. Continuing his education at LBW Community College, he participated in both the band and student government, eventually earning a full scholarship to Alabama State University. There, he served as the Golden Ambassador Chief in his senior year and made history as the first Black male in his family to earn a bachelor’s degree, obtaining a BS in Biology Pre-Health with a Minor in Chemistry.

With over 15 years of experience in mental health and 11 years in education, Mr. Daniels currently serves at Goshen High School after dedicating a decade to Highland Home High School. He also taught at Barbour County High School and was honored as Teacher of the Year for 2017–2018. Recently, he founded the 5A Program (Academic and Athletic Achievements for African Americans) to honor high-achieving African American student-athletes. As the Assistant Athletic Director for Goshen High School and the first Black Athletic Director at Highland Home High School, he has held numerous leadership roles and has been selected for CLAS 2025-2026. Mr. Daniels is married to Mrs. Telesha Daniels. Please join me in giving a warm welcome to this outstanding educator, leader, and role model, Mr. Adrian Daniels!
